Tips for a Lasting Manicure

You found the perfect color, and your nails have never looked better. But in the back of your mind there’s that niggling question about how long this good thing can really last. Manicures are gorgeous on the day they’re done, but most of us have a hard time keeping them looking good after we leave the salon. Fortunately, help has arrived. Here are a few ideas about how to keep those newly gorgeous nails looking their best for longer and longer.
Using nail oil after your appointment will keep your nails properly hydrated, and that will help your polish look fresh for longer. Over time as your nails dry out they actually shrink, and that perfect polish no longer fits. It actually begins to separate from your nails and that’s when chips are most likely to happen. Your nail technician can recommend the products that will work best for you.
You’ll also want to avoid hand care products that contain alcohol, such as scented lotions or hand sanitizers. The alcohol in these products actually eats away at that perfect polish you worked so hard to choose. Plus, alcohol tends to dry out your skin and nails, making chipping and flaking more likely.
Did you know that it can take up to 12 hours for nail polish to dry and cure completely? That’s like, your whole day and then some. Until your new polish is fully dry, you’ll want to avoid exposing your hands to excess heat, like hand dryers or hair dryers. You’ll minimize your chances of smudging or chipping if you do.
