Texturing Options for Smooth, Straight, Silky Hair

If you’re like many people, you spend a lot of time every morning getting your hairstyle just right, only to have it frizz out on you halfway through your day. This is frustrating, and it doesn’t have to happen! There are several professional texturing services that make hair smooth, silky, and easy to style, but which is the right treatment for your hair? Here’s a rundown of the different options and how they might work for you.
Keratin treatments. A full keratin treatment infuses your hair with keratin, a vital protein that strengthens the structure of your hair. The keratin seals onto each hair strand to help rebuild damage and protect against further damage, leaving each strand smooth and strong. The result is straight, smooth, shiny hair that won’t frizz regardless of weather conditions. It eliminates the need for straight irons and reduces your blow drying time so you can take back your morning. Depending on the length and thickness of your hair, it can take some time for a full keratin treatment, and you’ll be asked to wait several days before washing so the treatment can set properly. Keratin treatments last for over two months.
Express keratin. An express keratin treatment is exactly that – you get the same texture as a traditional keratin treatment but in less time. These also infuse the protein keratin for smooth, frizz-free hair, but express treatments generally take an hour or less. The results from express keratin treatments usually last about four to six weeks, and you’ll be able to wash your hair sooner after treatment, usually after 24 hours. Like traditional keratin treatments, express treatments can be repeated when they wear off, and usually leave your hair in better condition than before the treatment.
Chemical straightening. Chemical straightening is a permanent option, much like how a permanent wave makes your hair curly. Special chemicals change the bonds in your hair that made it curly and form new bonds to make it straight. This is a good option for people with healthy, manageable hair who just want a permanent straightening option, so they don’t have to fuss with the straight iron every day.
Relaxer. Finally, a relaxer is a formula that does just that – relaxes natural curls so they aren’t quite as tight as they would be without relaxing. Depending on the thickness and length of your hair, this can take some time, because your stylist sections out your hair before applying the relaxer. The process involves the application of the product, a waiting period, and a shampoo and condition before your stylist blow dries your hair and styles it. Relaxers work well for people whose hair tangles easily or is difficult to style each day and who want straighter hair.
