Healthy Winter Hair- 5 Tips for Cold Weather

Winter is here, and that means cold, dry air and wind that zaps moisture from your hair. During the colder months, your hair needs some extra special care to keep it from becoming a frizzy, static-filled, unruly mess. Today we’re going to give you hair care tips to keep your locks healthy all winter long.
Minimize Heat
Heat is a necessity when it’s cold out, but it dries out the air and robs moisture from your hair. Add hot showers and heat styling to the mix, and your poor thirsty strands will be begging for mercy. To minimize moisture loss from heat, try running a humidifier in your home to replenish moisture in the air, and then, opt for cooler showers and hairstyles that don’t require heat styling. If you must heat style, use the lowest heat setting possible, and apply thermal protectant before styling to minimize damage.
Add Extra Conditioner
You should already be conditioning your hair every time you wash, but in the wintertime, your hair may need something more. Begin by asking your stylist for advice to make sure you’re using the correct products for your hair type. The wrong products can weigh your hair down. It’s a good idea to add a weekly deep conditioning treatment to your routine, and if your hair is especially dry you may also need to include some leave-in conditioner to help combat the dry air. Keeping your hair conditioned and well hydrated will help keep winter frizz and static at bay.
Cut Back on Shampoo
How often do you shampoo your hair? Are you doing it too much? The average person only needs to shampoo their hair a couple of times per week. Shampooing strips natural oils making your dry hair woes worse. Try using a dry shampoo between washings to keep your hair looking and feeling fresh, or give it a quick rinse with cool water and apply some leave-in conditioner for a refresh between shampoos.
